Another overcast dull day with a chill E'tly wind. I arrived just after 9am about two hours into the dropping tide. A half hour later a small pod of Commons rounded the lighthouse and passed in front of me. This was followd by another more distant larger pod of around 30 animals off to the NW some twenty minutes later. It was quiet then untill 11ish when the Thursday survey team of Fran, Harry and Maddie turned up to the arrival of yet more Commons feeding off the lighthouse and some further out moving west to east. When they had passed we started sighting porpoise, firstly off Mackerel Point and then way out to the NW where around five were moving west and soon disappeared from view. Several closer sightings but all were very brief one breath and gone affairs.
By 12.30 I was feeling the effects of the cold and felt 3.1/2 hours was enough. I made my way up to the car park and stowed my gear in the car, turned to look over the sea only to see a couple of porpoise now showing well in front of the lookout. Just my luck. Thankfully the team were still there and I'm sure Maddie on camera would have caught them anyway. The forecast for the next few days is not good so I may not get out, but the morning will tell. Fingers crossed!
