Today I joined the Thursday survey team and it was good to see Andy Wise back in the team well on his way to a full reovery after surgery. Cliff also joined the group and we set to scanning the sea for action. The outer tide race was first to produce with a few porpoise starting to move west to east as the tide picked up. As the tide increased the porps started to move closer in but due to the heat shimmer images at this distance were just about useless. Later in the session we did get some closer porpoise but not as many as in previous days. The numbers were still good with an estimate of 30 to 40+ animals moving through. Less images than I've had lately due to the shimmer affecting the clarity. Lovely to see a reasnonably close Puffin which is a first for me although I have seen them flying past more distantly.
