Strumble Diary 16/05/2025

We're moving quickly through the month again and so the tides move on through the days, becoming later each day by roughly forty minutes. As they do, at least I get a lie in :-). So high water today was at 09.55 meaning the best time on the dropping tide was around12.30-13.00. Naturally, not wanting to miss anything I got there just after 12.00pm and settled in for the afternoon. I was soon joined by two vistors from northern England, Rob and Kia. Two quite knowledgable chaps who love this area of Wales and it's wildlife.(Thanks for the company guys).

They reported seeing five Rissos off Barafundle Bay yesterday and I confirmed this after seeing pics that they had taken. Nice to know they are in the area even if they are not getting up to the north coast of Pembrokeshire at present.

As the outer tide race formed we started seeing Porpoise in increasing numbers. Several groups of 5+ with some 2's and individuals foraging accross the view. As the tide dropped they came closer in and were feeding vigorously, with mostly dash and splash views as they sped through chasing fish. The gulls and Gannets were ever present and were good indicators of where the porps were feeding. By 14.30 the action had moved west beyond the lighthouse and after catching two late stragglers I packed the kit away and closed my session.
